Welcome to Your New Home: The State of Immigration in Northern Ontario

Regional experts in Northern Ontario were interviewed in the Spring of 2022 to understand the challenges and opportunities in five areas: food security, immigration-migration, physician recruitment, post-secondary education, and homelessness, mental health and addiction. Regarding immigration, experts suggested concentrating on addressing the lack of affordable housing, improving the retention rate, and enhancing Northern Ontario’s marketing to newcomers in order to tackle existing labour shortages and high retirement rates.
