There are various cases of ‘basic build infrastructure’ on reserves, whereby a blanket approach to infrastructure funding, design and construction without accounting for a community’s unique needs and circumstances is utilized. Given that successful infrastructure development goes hand-in-hand with economic and social success, this paper analyzes Indigenous and non-Indigenous case studies on housing and provides practices to implement and those to avoid.
