NPI's 10th Anniversary Gala (Northwest)

Decision makers, community leaders, entrepreneurs, and innovators from Northwestern Ontario joined us to celebrate NPI’s 10th anniversary year In Thunder Bay for our Northwest Anniversary Gala. This event presented a unique opportunity to break down industry silos and celebrate the impact of Northern Ontario’s home-grown independent evidence-based policy institute.

In the last decade NPI has been involved in multiple Northern Ontario success stories: the development of the Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot, the expansion of First Nations control of First Nations education, the piloting of the 2 plus 1 road model here in Northern Ontario, the growth in programs to support newcomers, increases in community and workplace supports for First Nation/Métis/Inuit populations already here, the expansion of bus service from Toronto to Winnipeg and, the reintroduction of the spring bear hunt. To name just a few.

Our Gala Speaker

Ron Bernbaum, Founder of PearTree Canada & CEO of PearTree Financial, explored the topic of "Uniting the Canadian Resource and Charitable Sectors: Financing Critical Mineral Opportunities"

Some kind words about the impact NPI has made in Northern Ontario!

- Madge Richardson, Executive Director, North Superior Workforce Planning Board

"Congratulations to NPI on the launch of Community Accounts. As a Regional Manager for Northern Ontario who works with over 131 Northern Municipalities, access to information regarding the communities we serve helps our team understand the composition and demography of our stakeholders. The website provides easy access and well presented data for anyone to obtain.” (2017)

- Mary Dawson-Cole, Regional Manager, Northern Ontario MPAC

“I have been impressed with the amount of research and publications on First Nations’ issues that has been undertaken by NPI. The research being undertaken by NPI will greatly benefit the emerging field of research at Nipissing University, specifically in the area of applied sociology.” (2018)

- Dr. Mike Degagné– President and Vice-Chancellor, Nipissing University

"NPI is a champion for Northern Ontario, promoting its many opportunities and connecting various organisations to foster collaboration and progress against societal, environmental & economic priorities.
