Giving Tuesday is a global movement that showcases the impact we can have when we all work together in the name of social good.

We’re putting our own spin on Giving Tuesday with Adopt-an-Intern, a special fundraiser that empowers you to support hands-on workforce experience for Northern Ontario’s students and new graduates. Northern Policy Institute frequently hires new graduates for year-long internships to introduce them to the cut and thrust of public policy debate. During their time with us, these interns are able to apply their time-management, leadership, problem solving, communication and teamwork skills in a professional setting.

Again this year, donations will go towards our interns, co-ops, and summer students. Without them, NPI would not have the capacity needed to work on projects that are relevant to your community. New graduates and students often feel unsure about their future in the workforce. Your donation will give employment opportunities to Northern youth and allow them to gain workforce experience during the most uncertain time of their lives.

When you Adopt-an-Intern, you are not only investing in the future of youth in Northern Ontario, you are also investing in your community.

Experience North

Have you heard of our Experience North program? Since 2014, Northern Policy Institute has offered up to ten four-month placements across Northern Ontario from May to August. Housed in one of Northern Policy Institute's two permanent offices, or with a partner organization, the summer students learn first-hand about the cut and thrust of public policy debate and develop skills in the areas of research, writing, analysis, communications, and the operation of a not-for-profit.

You can read more about the 2020 cohort and their experiences here, and hear from past Experience North placements, too!

Year-Long Internships

Northern Policy Institute frequently hires new graduates for year-long internships to introduce them to the cut and thrust of public policy debate. During their time with us, these interns are able to apply their time-management, leadership, problem solving, communication and teamwork skills in a professional setting. Past interns have focused on projects such as governance, immigration, economic growth, small market outreach and more.
